Foundations of Nutrition

HLTH 1020

I took nutrition as a prerequisite for the nursing program

Reflections:

In this class we learned how important our diets are to our overall health. We learned how food provides energy in the form of calories, the 6 major nutrients (carbs, lipids, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water) and the different roles they play in our body keeping everything working properly. We also learned different ways to help us meet our nutrition goals and how to help us stick to those goals. The major assignment for this class was researching our family health history, and writting  a paper on a prominent diease we found in our family. I have included my family health history research paper below.

With this assignment I learned how the decisions we make on what we put in our bodies has a bigger impact than most people realize. How eating the wrong kinds of food can not only make us gain unwanted weight but it also has negative reactions inside the body that can make our overall health deteriorate. I also learned the different affects that drug and alcohol abuse has on our health and the negative side affects it causes when it comes to how our body functions. Overall I learned that nutrition is a big factor when trying to maintain good health and its very important to do the best we can to make healthy choices when it comes to what we put in our bodies.
